Why did a factory automation company set up a blog?

Over the past 30 years, Fastems has gained unique experience working with and solving productivity concerns for thousands of companies. We have seen how different industries work and have learned A LOT along the way. Therefore, it’s time to set up the Fastems blog, through which we can share our experiences and help manufacturers learn from what others have proven.

The Fastems blog will discuss themes relevant for thousands of our customers in fields ranging from aerospace to equipment and automotive manufacturers, as well as subcontracting companies. At the end of the day, most manufacturers are seeking ultimate delivery reliability, production flexibility and optimized unit costs – no matter what they produce. To summarize, our goal is to equip our readers with the insights we have gathered, and to raise discussion on the best production practices.

Our blog writers are experts in specific areas of automation, i.e. manufacturing management software, system architecture, automation engineering, design and R&D. Furthermore, all of them have gained their knowledge through working on real-life automation projects in different metal cutting industries.

Key themes

We will cover common themes that cause head scratching on the shop floor, including how to:

  • improve delivery capability (lead-time, reliability),
  • master high-mix-low-volume production,
  • improve productivity, throughput or overall equipment efficiency (OEE),
  • plan resources and production ahead,
  • increase machine tool utilization, and
  • implement lean principles in manufacturing.

Our first post, written by Pertti Lukkari, Director of Software Products, focuses on Overall Equipment Efficiency (OEE), and how to improve it by integrating, integrating and integrating once more. You can read his post here.

We will be publishing new texts every 2-5 weeks and warmly welcome everyone interested in the above topics to read.

If you have wishes for topics or comments, we are eager to hear them. Enjoy reading!
