Fastems is leading the way in digitalization with the appointment of Tomi Kankainen as CDO (Chief Digital Officer)
Fastems Oy Ab (Tampere, Finland), a leading independent manufacturer of factory automation systems, has announced Tomi Kankainen as CDO (Chief Digital Officer). With this step the company underlines its pioneering task in transforming to digital. As of November 1st, 2016 Tomi Kankainen is a Strategic Management team member and reports to Tomas Hedenborg (CEO). “We are happy to have Tomi in our team. He will support us to create progress on digitization and lead the integrated transformation process.”
This transformation will strengthen the structure of processes, increase the use of digital channels in not only marketing and sales but in all functions, develop new business through digital products and services, make use of big and small data, cloud and mist. Digital transformation will be part of the company culture and know how. At the end of the day digitalization will boost the already strong innovative power of Fastems, and most importantly build and support lightning fast, customer centric implementation capability.
Tomi Kankainen holds two master’s’ degrees, M.Sc. Engineering and M.A. Industrial Design, added with two decades of experience in various aspects of business, research, development, and management of intelligent products, services and technologies. Tomi is an experienced coach, leader, and innovator, fluent in both digital and physical domain; a design thinker, experienced also in complex solution and design service sales and business development. Most of all he is a strong believer of team playing, thus promoting collaborative, multidisciplinary working methods and tools.
“In the digital world it’s all about understanding stakeholders’ needs, having strong a sense of urgency, being courageous, quick and effective in any actions while still maintaining analytical yet innovative mindset. Furthermore, no one can succeed alone, for which reason networking is extremely essential.”
According to bitkom’s estimation only two percent of bigger companies have established the position of a CDO. Among companies below 500 employees this function usually doesn’t exist at all. The CDO Club estimated for 2015 about 2,000 CDOs globally. Another study by PwC found that the CDO position has been implemented primarily at organizations in consumer-focused industries such as media, entertainment, food and beverage, and consumer products. These data underline Fastems’ leading way in digitalization in the industrial environment.
To be proactive in a rapidly changing environment where trends are increasingly being dictated to organizations and not by them is the challenge. Digital operations are needed to improve the customer experience. With the announcement of Tomi Kankainen Fastems is leading the way about digital capabilities for a better adaption to customer needs and benefits.
