FPM control system

The FPM control system sets a new standard for flexibility in an FMS system with its two order processing schemes that can be used in parallel: scheduled orders and continuous orders. Scheduled orders are typically customer orders with a specific due date and quantity. Continuous orders are typically pull-type production lots common in lean manufacturing. Together, they create a perfect platform for agile manufacturing. The processing model for continuous orders optimizes the lean production flow, while the scheduled orders provide agility: a scheduled order is considered an "express order" and it automatically overrides continuous orders.

The FPM control system lets the operator select the automation level for operations. Fully automatic operation only requires a production order, after which manufacturing starts and the operators are clearly advised what to clamp at the loading stations. However, the operator can control which jobs enter each machine tool and loading station and in which order they enter.

The FPM control system includes a powerful automation optimization system that automatically selects the optimal machine tool for each job on the pallet based on tool availability. The control system also supports universal fixtures and a four-face manufacturing scheme.

The graphical user interface is consistent, illustrative, and includes extensive wizard support for seldom-used operations. The graphical user interface of the control system is divided into three functional sections: control room (A), function bar (B), and workspace (C). The buttons in the control room and function bar are used to activate the workspace for each device of the system and for each function.
